Workforce prospects - Greater numbers of workers in Saxony's tourism sector
In different parts of the region, there were notable variations. The Saxon Castle and Heathland areas, along with the cities of Chemnitz, Leipzig, and Dresden, witnessed a growth in workforce of up to four percent in a single year. Dresden and Leipzig, with 14,000 (+3.9%) and 13,500 (+3.2%) employees respectively, surpassed their 2018 and 2019 records by 0.4% each. However, in other tourist areas, the number of employees dropped during the same period. The number of workers in the Erzgebirge region decreased by 3% to approximately 8,500, while in Upper Lusatia/Lower Silesia, the number went down by 2.5% to 6,700.
Stats reveal that the total number of overnight stays in 2023, including camping, was about 20 million, which is 11% higher than the previous year.
