award ceremony - Great Hersfeld Prize for Arnold and Sigal

Actor Henry Arnold and actress Helena Charlotte Sigal have been awarded the Grand Hersfeld Prize for their roles in the production "Like in Heaven" at the annual Bad Hersfeld Festspiele. The jury praised the pair for bringing success to the theater adaptation of the Swedish film source, according to the jury's justification. Arnold plays the role of conductor Daniel Daréus in the adaptation of the music film drama, while Sigal takes on the role of Lena.

"The psychological development of the two characters is particularly evident in the pair scenes, which convincingly convey emotional depth," the jury stated. Both actors convinced in both the dramatic and comedic love scenes. In musical performances, they proved to be equal partners.

The Grand Hersfeld Prize was first awarded in 1962 to Hans Caninenberg. Among the recipients of the non-endowed award were Volker Lechtenbrink, Uwe Friedrichsen, Mario Adorf, Tilly Lauenstein, Helen Schneider, and Christian Nickel, as well as Katharine Mehrling.

Additionally, the Hersfeld Prize was awarded, which has been given out since 1962 and traditionally goes to young actors or the "best supporting role." In this year, actress Gioia Osthoff was honored. Osthoff, who was not present at the award ceremony, plays the role of "Polly" in Michael Schachermaier's production of "The Threepenny Opera" by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill.

"She captivates not only Mackie, but also the audience with her mesmerizing, slightly raspy speaking and singing voice," explained the jury, consisting of cultural journalists. "From the naive girl in the apron, she transforms into the Queen of Cocaine, who also holds Mackie's gangster gang in check."

Furthermore, the chorus from Joern Hinkels production "Like in Heaven" was awarded the Hersfeld Prize. The annual festivals run from June 21 to August 18.

The award ceremony for the Hersfeld Prize also took place during the Bad Hersfeld Festspiele, honoring talented actors each year. Gioia Osthoff, a notable absentee, was the recipient of this year's Hersfeld Prize for her compelling performance as "Polly" in "The Threepenny Opera." Bad Hersfeld, known for its festivals, is located in the beautiful state of Hesse, Germany, where these prestigious awards are presented annually at the Theater.
