Movie - Great cinema: the movie nights on the banks of the Elbe start in Dresden

The Film Nights at Dresden Elbe Riverfront welcome back their audience from Thursday evening. "Perfect Days", a film by Wim Wenders about a janitor in Japan, will kick things off. Around 100 films are scheduled to screen on the giant screen in front of the baroque Old Town backdrop, nearly a third of which will be shown in the family cinema. Some classics will be held onto by the summer cinema, including concerts and the "Dirty Dancing Night". For the first time since 2019, Midnight Cinema is being offered again.

The lineup includes film hits like "The Big Lebowski" or "Thelma & Louise" as well as new releases from Hollywood such as "Poor Things" or "Barbie". Additionally, the new Finnish tragicomedy "Falling Leaves" by Aki Kaurismaeki and the German comedy "Two to One" based on a true story from the Transition Era in Thuringia are on the schedule. In parallel to the large Dresden Art Exhibition for the 250th Birthday of the German Romantic, the documentary-feature film "Caspar David Friedrich - Boundaries of Time" by Peter Schamoni will be screened.

Twelve concerts are planned. The stage beneath the Finance Ministry will host Deep Purple, Deichkind, Marius Müller-Westernhagen, the German-Turkish singer Ayliva, who is causing a stir on TikTok, and Schlager singer Roland Kaiser. The traditional "Kaisermania" with five shows is already sold out, as are the performances by Silbermond, DJ Purple Disco Machine, and the HipHop band 01099 from the Dresden Scene Quarter Neustadt. The Dresden Philharmonic will once again play film music under the open sky.

Last year, around 228,000 filmgoers and music fans came to the Königsufer, one year earlier there were almost 274,000 - a record due to coronavirus-related setbacks.
