During their break, all university students in Hamburg can readily utilize all public transportation within the HVV zone without the necessity of a ticket. This charitable arrangement by the Hamburg Transport Association has been active since midweek and continues till the weekend.

Starting September 1st, around 210,000 Hamburg students will enjoy free national travel in local transit if they or their guardians acquire the Germany ticket at no cost. Even after this, inspectors of the HVV are expected to exhibite leniency if someone doesn't immediately present the complimentary ticket as stated by the transport association's representative. This free travel ticket can solely be acquired online. Guardians are responsible for ordering it for children under 15. Once they turn 16, students can obtain it themselves, but they will require evidence from their school. The HVV fare zone encompasses areas beyond Hamburg, including locations such as Itzehoe, Ratzeburg, Dannenberg, or Cuxhaven.
