Medical hopefuls have until August's end to submit applications for the Brandenburg Medical Grant. According to the Brandenburg Association of Compulsory Health Insurance Doctors, the chosen scholars receive a monthly stipend of 1,000 euros during their education period.

As a stipulation, selected candidates agree to practice medicine in rural Brandenburg for a minimum of five years post-graduation. The Association revealed that 18 comprehensive grants will be distributed at the commencement of the winter semester.

Per the Association of Compulsory Health Insurance Doctors, this marks the final submission period for the scholarship. Catrin Steiniger, chairwoman of the Brandenburg Association of Compulsory Health Insurance Doctors, voiced regret for the scholarship's discontinuation, vowing to lobby for its reinstatement with the upcoming state government.

Brandenburg currently grapples with a physician shortage in certain areas, which may escalate in the coming years. As per data from the Association of Compulsory Health Insurance Doctors from end-last year, about one-third of general practitioners are aged 60 or above, while for specialists, the figure is 29%.

The Brandenburg Medical Grant is designed to assist students during their education period in medicine. To ensure rural Brandenburg has sufficient medical professionals, recipients of the grant are required to practice medicine there for five years post-graduation.
