DFB Cup - Grammozis effect in the Palatinate: "What makes the FCK special"

Dimitrios Grammozis was also flattered by his boss's gushing. Kaiserslautern's managing director Thomas Hengen said after the quarter-final in front of an audience of millions on ARD: "That was a huge fight. It was a collective super performance."

The appointment of Grammozis as successor to the recently unsuccessful Dirk Schuster paid off in the very first game. "I think we showed more of what FCK is all about today," said goalscorer Ragnar Ache. The Palatinate side had not won a game in the whole of November and lost 4-1 to Magdeburg on Saturday.

The 2:0 in the atmospheric traditional club duel against 1. FC Nürnberg not only brings the Palatinate team additional money and new courage, but also opens the door to the DFB Cup - possibly to the final on May 25 in Berlin. "A big compliment to the players, because the last few weeks weren't easy, but they played a good game. I'm very happy that we made it," said Grammozis, who was only introduced as the new coach on Sunday.

The two and a half days leading up to the cup round of 16 were correspondingly hectic. "They were intense days for me because we had to organize a lot of things. We had to create a structure and think about how we could use these one or two days," said the 45-year-old. There is now time until Saturday (13:00) before the match against Hertha BSC.
