Election campaigning in public spaces is still being targeted with attacks even just before the voting day in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern this Sunday. The Schwerin Police Department revealed on Monday that in the southern part of the state capital alone, there were 170 damaged election posters and holders reported over the weekend. These efforts primarily impacted the AfD's campaign. The posters were destroyed, torn down, and even smeared with red paint. The State Protection Office is now looking into the investigation.

Since the start of the European and local election campaign in April, posters have been vandalized or unlawfully removed in several locations across Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. There have been instances where perpetrators were caught and charges have been filed against them.

An example of this occurred early Sunday morning in Ludwigslust where four young men aged 20 to 22 were arrested by the police. In an extremely intoxicated state, they seem to have destroyed posters at random, with charges of property damage subsequently filed by the local police.
