Week dedicated to taking action - "GoVote" Launched at Elbphilharmonie with a Concert
Countless gigs, a huge rally against the right, battles with drag queens, regular Typhoon Tutu parades and explorations of places with a Nazi history - the aim of the Hamburg Action Week "GoVote" is to encourage as many people as possible to vote. The kick-off concert at Elbphilharmonie on Monday night featuring artists Jeremias, Ami Warning, Balbina, Levin Liam, Anna Depenbusch and Antje Schomaker marked the beginning of the city-wide initiative. 1000 free tickets were distributed to individuals living in neighborhoods identified by a project group at the University of Music and Theater as having low voter turnout in previous elections.
The event, hosted by Aminata Belli, was streamed live online; the show can now be viewed in the Elbphilharmonie Mediathek. The upcoming Sunday elections are set to become a hot topic in the city, the Elbphilharmonie shared before the concert.
The Hamburg Action Coalition "GoVote" is said to be non-partisan and doesn't endorse any particular party. "The alliance is united by the belief that every vote for a democratic party is a statement against right-wing extremism and division."
Other events planned for the week include Klare-Kante concerts with King Boris (Fettes Brot), the band Meute, Lia Sahin, Afrob and Turbostaat in different neighborhoods. There's also a daytime boat ride with a Typhoon from the German Maritime Museum as a reminder of the upcoming election and a graffiti exhibit at the "Jupiter" creative center at the main train station. In addition, Ansu and Aetna will perform at the Thalia Theater, and drag queens will come together for wild wrestling in vibrant chaos at Kampnagel.
The goal of the "GoVote" action week is to banish right-wing extremist parties from the parliaments with diversity and democratic power. The main focus of the action week are primarily first-time voters.
