Government legal representative: accusations levied against IS sympathizers for devising a assault in Sweden
Mohammed G., suspected to have joined the ISIS affiliate Islamic State Province of Khorasan (ISPK), makes headlines in August 2023, hailing from Germany. This initiative supposedly stems from the controversial Quran burnings that took place in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries. ISPK allegedly assigned Mohammed G. the mission of carrying out an act of terror in Europe. As a team with the other suspect, N., they reportedly planned to open fire on police officers and civilians at Stockholm's parliament.
Collaborating closely with ISPK leaders, it's claimed that the duo had meticulously prepared for their intended crime, according to the Federal Prosecutor's Office. Their research included investigating local data related to the potential crime scene on the web. Multiple attempts to acquire weapons were reportedly made, but the venture remained unsuccessful.
The pair is also implicated in collecting approximately 2000 euros for IS in Syria's northern region from Germany. These funds were reportedly transferred to ISIS via intermediaries.
Mohammed G. faces charges of affiliation and supporting a foreign terrorist organization. Suspect N. is accused of offering assistance. Both are additionally charged with conspiring to commit a crime and violating the Foreign Trade and Payments Act.
They've been detained since mid-March. The Thuringian Higher Regional Court in Jena will decide their indictment and the commencement of the principal trial.
Despite their failed weapon acquisitions, the duo continued their preparations, exploring other means to carry out their terror plans. Other fish in the sea, potential Sympathizers or recruits, were also targeted by Mohammed G. and N., aiming to expand their network and cause further destruction.
