Soccer - Görsdorf leaves Union Berlin after 15 years
Lisa Görsdorf leaves 1. FC Union Berlin after nearly two decades. "Union was my club since 2009, together we experienced many highs and lows during this time," said the 28-year-old in a club statement on Saturday. She had switched from Tennis Borussia Berlin's youth team to 1. FC Union Berlin's youth department at the age of 17 and made her debut in the women's team. "From promotions and relegations to cup victories, I will always look back on all of this with great pride," Görsdorf added.
The reason for the separation was explained by Jennifer Zietz, head of the women's and girls department: "The development of our women's department has gained considerable momentum in the past year, unfortunately this also means that not all players can keep up with this development. It was a truly difficult decision, but in our joint conversations, we informed Lisa that she will not get playing time in the pros."
Görsdorf had promoted to the 2. Liga with 1. FC Union in 2014 and 2016, but then also demoted with the Berliners in the following seasons. Most recently, another promotion was achieved.
Görsdorf's career was also marked by serious health setbacks. She fell ill with cancer twice, but overcame it and returned to the field. In addition, she suffered from a cruciate ligament injury twice.
Lisa Görsdorf, despite being associated with Berlin's 1st FC Union Berlin for nearly two decades, will no longer play in the women's team due to the rapid development of the club's women's and girls department. This famous footballer once transitioned from Tennis Borussia Berlin's youth team to 1. FC Union Berlin's youth department. Recently, Görsdorf played a crucial role in helping Tennis Borussia Berlin's men's team, Tennis Borussia Berlin, as they competed in Bundesliga 2.
