- Goretzka advocates for potentially embracing transformation
Rudi Völler, the head of sports at DFB, suggests that Leon Goretzka might want to reconsider his stance on staying at FC Bayern, even considering the 2026 World Cup. If Goretzka, aged 29, isn't seeing enough game time, it could be beneficial to explore other options, Völler shared on "Doppelpass" on Sport1.
Goretzka ought to "make a call for himself". Although contracts are a factor to consider, "you also want to feel at ease and valued," Völler stated. "You crave game time."
Goretzka didn't make the cut for the national team under coach Julian Nagelsmann during the summer's home Euro, and he's also battling for playing time at FC Bayern. He was omitted from the squad for the DFB-Pokal game against SSV Ulm on Friday (4-0) and is reportedly being eyed as a transfer target.
At present, there's no significant chatter about Goretzka's future, as per Sporting Director Christoph Freund. However, several clubs have expressed interest in him because of his exceptional skills as a player. Goretzka's contract with DFB ends on June 30, 2026, and he's made 57 appearances for the national team thus far.
In light of the ongoing competition for playing time at FC Bayern and his recent exclusion from the national team, it might be worthwhile for Goretzka to consider his situation in Germany. With several clubs showing interest in his exceptional talents, Germany could be a potential destination for a new challenge.
