Inundation Overwhelms Area: Massive Flooding Occurs in the Region. - Göppingen district's fire departments remain in constant operation.
The current focus of our efforts is to shield a vast number of buildings from the rising water levels using sandbags, as reported by District Fire Chief Michael Reick from the District Office. People living along waterways who were instructed to leave their homes were aided by the rescue services. The number of those impacted initially remained unknown.
To safeguard structures, thousands of sandbags were used by the emergency services, according to the District Office. Particularly hazardous were oil tanks that had made their way into basements. Various streets were shut down because of flooding and landslides.
The Stuttgart Fire Department contributed 10,000 sandbags for flood protection to the district, while the district also received aid in the form of additional sandbags and a filling machine from Heilbronn, Ludwigsburg, and Esslingen.
