Agriculture - Good sugar beet year 2023 for Thuringian farmers

Thuringia's farmers reaped an above-average sugar beet harvest last year. They harvested a total of 939,700 tons of sugar beet, as announced by the State Statistical Office in Erfurt on Wednesday. This was around 149,000 tons or 19 percent more than in 2022. The yield per hectare of cultivated land was 15 percent higher than in 2022 and 9 percent above the average of the past five years. 73 tons were harvested per hectare. In Thuringia, almost 13,000 hectares of sugar were cultivated in 2023, an increase of 400 hectares or 4 percent.
