Golf - Golf pro Kaymer sets his sights: 1-0 win with Musiala goal
Golf professional Martin Kaymer gave a clear prediction for Germany's EURO 2020 Quarter-final against Spain before the start of the BMW International Open. "1:0 in the 77th minute", Kaymer said in Eichenried near Munich. He fixed on Jamal Musiala as the scorer.
Kaymer, the only German winner at the Bayern Turnier in 2008, reported consuming a lot of football during the EURO 2020. "I tried to watch all the games because I'm just a football fan and I really enjoy good football", said the 39-year-old.
Kaymer, who will tee off with Bernhard Langer and Marcel Siem on Friday at 12:40 pm, expressed confidence in the German team for the home tournament. "I was pleased with how the Germans started. They played solidly and showed the quality they have."
The match against Spain now has a decisive character. "They can go very far. It's almost like a final on Friday", said Kaymer. "I believe if Germany wins on Friday, they will also be the European champions."
Langer's career "extraordinary"
Kaymer is a popular figure at the 35th BMW International Open. The focus, however, is on Bernhard Langer, who is playing his last tournament on the DP World Tour at the event. "What he has done for golf in Germany is underestimated", said Kaymer.
Langer and the South African Ernie Els were once Kaymer's idols, he said. Langer is simply impressive. "That's quite extraordinary what he does. He motivated me. One would like to somehow build on his achievements - even if it seems almost impossible." But it's always good to have big goals.
Langer is playing his last tournament at the BMW Open in Munich. It's also the first time since 2012 that the Masters winner of 1985 and 1993, who worked as a golf coach in Munich for three years, has been present at the event. The Anhausen native is preparing for an emotional tournament.
Martin Kaymer, a golf professional and the only German winner at the Bayern Turnier in 2008, expressed his love for soccer and the German national team. He mentioned watching all the EURO 2020 games due to his appreciation for good football. In the context of the upcoming BMW International Open, Kaymer predicted a 1:0 win for Germany against Spain, with Jamal Musiala scoring the goal. He expressed confidence in Germany's performance, stating that they had shown quality and started the tournament well. Kaymer also spoke highly of Bernhard Langer, a fellow golfer and German golfing legend, who will be participating in his last tournament on the DP World Tour at the BMW International Open. Kaymer mentioned Langer as one of his idols and described his career as "extraordinary."
In the same vein, Martin Kaymer acknowledged the significant impact Langer has had on golf in Germany. Kaymer, who hails from Stuttgart, praised the Masters champion's achievements and expressed the desire to build upon Langer's legacy. The BMW International Open in Munich, Bavaria, will mark the first time in a decade that Langer, originally from Anhausen, has attended the event since his stint as a golf coach in Munich. The tournament, set to take place after the BMW Open, promises to be an emotional farewell for the 65-year-old Golfer, who has enjoyed a successful career spanning over four decades. In this context, Marcel Siem also joins Bernhard Langer and Martin Kaymer in the event, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the tournament.
