Munich - Golf idol Langer bids farewell to DP World Tour
Germany's golf idol Bernhard Langer will play his last tournament on the DP World Tour in Munich next year. It will also be the first time since 2012 that the man from Anhausen will be back at the event, which runs from July 3 to 7. The 66-year-old has been the star of the US Seniors Tour for years. The DP World Tour, formerly the European Tour, is the top European league in professional golf. Langer has won 42 titles on the former European Tour in his career.
"I'm really looking forward to the 35th BMW International Open, which has a special significance for me. I took part in the first event in 1989 and have only missed it twice before the 25th anniversary," explained Langer on Thursday. "Even though I've been competing on the PGA Tour Champions in the USA for years, I can't think of a more atmospheric tournament to say goodbye to the DP World Tour than the BMW International Open."
Langer grew up in Anhausen near Augsburg and worked as a golf instructor in Munich for three and a half years before becoming a Tour professional. "It's all the nicer to be able to experience another great week of tournaments in my Bavarian home," said the 1985 and 1993 Masters winner.
