Soccer - Goalkeeping coach Marco Knoop also leaves FC St. Pauli
Bundesliga promoter FC St. Pauli and goalkeeper coach Marco Knoop are going separate ways. As the club announced, the contract, which was extended in May at Knoop's request, was mutually terminated. It is likely that Knoop will join promotion trainer Fabian Hürzeler at Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League. A confirmation for this was not available yet.
"Marco has developed our goalkeepers further with his unconventional approaches and ideas and had a big impact on our success in the past years. That's why we would have liked to see him with us in the team still," said St. Pauli's sports director Andreas Bornemann about Knoop. The goalkeeper coach had joined FC St. Pauli from Danish top-tier side FC Nordsjælland for the 2022/23 season.
Knoop is known to be a close confidant and an important collaborator of Hürzeler. In recent weeks, it has been speculated several times that he would follow his ex-boss to the British Isle.
