FC St. Pauli Bundesliga promotee and goalkeeper coach Marco Knoop are going separate ways. As the club announced, the contract, which was extended in May at Knoop's request, was mutually terminated. Knoop will join promotion manager Fabian Hürzeler at Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed the signing of Knoop. Jonas Scheuermann, previously co-trainer of Bundesligist FC Augsburg, and Max Lesser, who had worked as an analyst at VfB Stuttgart, are also part of Hürzeler's new coaching staff.

"Marco's unconventional approaches and ideas have developed our goalkeepers and had a significant impact on our success in recent years. We would have been happy to have him with us in the team," said St. Pauli's sporting director Andreas Bornemann about Knoop. The goalkeeper coach had joined FC Nordsjaelland from the Danish first league for the 2022/23 season.

Knoop is known to be a close confidant and valuable contributor of Fabian Hürzeler. In recent weeks, it was speculated several times that he would follow his ex-boss to the British Isle.

  1. Fabian Hürzeler, who led FC St. Pauli to Bundesliga promotion, will be bringing his goalkeeper coach, Marco Knoop, to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
  2. Despite FC St. Pauli's sporting director Andreas Bornemann expressing his appreciation for Marco Knoop's unconventional methods and their impact on the team's success, Knoop will be leaving the Bundesliga club to join Hürzeler in England.
  3. Bornemann mentioned that Marco Knoop, who had recently joined FC Nordsjaelland from the Danish first league, served as a valuable contributor and close confidant to Hürzeler before their separation.
  4. The Premier League team Brighton & Hove Albion has also signed Jonas Scheuermann, previously a co-trainer for Bundesligist FC Augsburg, and Max Lesser, an analyst at VfB Stuttgart, to join Marco Knoop in Fabian Hürzeler's new coaching staff.
