Goalkeeper Mrkva with record handball champions THW Kiel until 2025
Goalkeeper Tomas Mrkva will remain with record handball champions THW Kiel until 2025. As the club announced on Wednesday, both the 34-year-old Czech international goalkeeper and the club exercised the option that was originally stipulated in his contract, which runs until June 30, 2024. "Tomas has played a strong first year with us," said THW Managing Director Viktor Szilagyi, adding: "We got together early on and are now looking forward to continuing our collaboration."
Mrkva currently forms the goalkeeper pairing with Samir Bellahcene, who was brought in to replace the injured Vincent Gérard. The two Frenchmen's contracts expire at the end of the season. Spanish world-class keeper Gonzalo Perez de Vargas will then move from FC Barcelona to Kiel for the 2025/26 season.
On Thursday (18:45/Dyn), THW will celebrate a reunion with its former regular goalkeeper: Niklas Landin will come to Kiel with Aalborg HB for the Champions League preliminary round match. The Dane moved to his home country at the start of the season after eight years in the Schleswig-Holstein capital.
Tomas Mrkva continues his tenure as a goalkeeper with Bundesliga champions THW Kiel until 2025, extending his contract that initially ran until 2024. In the 2025-26 season, Spanish world-class keeper Gonzalo Perez de Vargas will join THW Kiel from FC Barcelona, replacing some of Mrkva's responsibilities, as the Czech international will still be with the club at that time.
