Goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes will be staying with Hamburger SV for longer. As the second division club announced on Friday, the 31-year-old has extended his contract early until 2026.

"Together, we have managed to develop great cohesion and euphoria. That's why I really wanted to stay at HSV, to lead the way and be successful with the team," Heuer Fernandes was quoted as saying in the press release.

At HSV, the goalkeeper, who has played 119 competitive matches for the Hamburg club to date, is regarded as a reliable back-up and undisputed number one. He has been named "Player of the Season" by HSV fans in the past two seasons. A week ago, Heuer Fernandes gained additional notoriety when he scored a spectacular own goal in Hamburg's 2:2 draw with FC St. Pauli.

The goalkeeper, who trained at VfL Bochum and Borussia Dortmund, joined the Hanseatic club from Darmstadt 98 in 2019. He had previously played for HSV's current second division rivals VfL Osnabrück and SC Paderborn.
