Goalie fight in the German Ice Hockey League: "On the bucket list"

Goalkeepers are particularly protected in ice hockey, they rarely fight themselves. In the German Ice Hockey League, however, this has happened - and the protagonists take it with humor.

DEL - Goalie fight in the German Ice Hockey League: "On the bucket list"

After the extremely rare goalie fight , ice hockey goalkeepers Tobias Ancicka and Niklas Treutle were quick to joke about their spectacular move. "I think that's on every goalkeeper's bucket list," said Ancicka from the Cologne Sharks with a smile on MagentaSport: "It was definitely fun, and the atmosphere in the arena afterwards was of course outstanding. But I think that was also my last fight."

You could see why in his face: There was a plaster across his nose. "I got a full straight right there, then a cut appeared," explained Ancicka (22) about the clearly lost duel with his ten years older goalkeeper colleague Treutle from the Nuremberg Ice Tigers: "It was one-sided. I didn't land a shot, I think he landed eight. But yes, it was my first fight, I think it was good for the show."

Treutle couldn't really be happy about his personal victory, however, as his Nuremberg team lost the DEL game on Sunday in Cologne 2:4. "I'd rather have three points and a bloody nose," said Treutle, for whom it was also a fight premiere against a fellow goalkeeper: "I don't need that every week now."

In the second period, there was a scuffle in front of the Nuremberg goal, in which Treutle was also involved. Ancicka then came from the other side, both goalies threw gloves and helmets onto the ice and attacked each other with bare fists. The crowd roared loudly.

"I felt I had to run over. He was wrestling with me," explained Ancicka: "Then I went over immediately - and I got a few punches in the face."
