- GNTM semifinalist Frieder declareed: "I'm 25% mermaid-like"
Frieder Sell, a multitalented individual, content creator, model, and semi-finalist on "Germany's Next Topmodel", has a deep affinity for water. "I'm 25% mermaid. That's why I adore crystal-clear lakes where I can peer beneath the surface. I'm utterly smitten with diving," the 25-year-old confesses in the podcast "OKF - Regio-Reconnaissance" by RBB radio station Fritz.
This podcast presents renowned figures sharing tales about their origins in Eastern Germany. Frieder Sell hails from Waren on the Müritz lake in the Mecklenburg Lake District, but currently resides in Berlin.
He used to immerse himself in the lakes on New Year's Eve - spending at least five seconds before and five seconds after midnight in the freezing cold water, as he recalls. "Subsequently, fireworks would burst over the lake, and when you emerged, you could sense the fireworks inside you due to the tingling sensation. It was painfully cold, yet somehow an exhilarating sensation to begin the new year in such a manner and purge the old one," Sell explains.
Post the dip in the icy water, he always feels revitalized. Typically, upon returning home, he heads straight from the station to the lake. "Rain or shine, my mom adores this lake," Sell mentions in the podcast. "She's also spot-on with the phrase: 'Once you've emerged, you always feel better.' Even if you've only been in for a brief period, swam a few strokes, and emerged - it's an extraordinary sensation."
He gushes about his hometown: "It's stunning. The fields, the forests. The only pitfall Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has is mosquitoes - when it comes to outdoor settings." His upbringing in and around Waren "was paradise."
Despite being well-established in Berlin, Frieder Sell fondly remembers his mother's appreciation for their hometown lake, often stating, "Once you've emerged, you always feel better." Moreover, he acknowledges that while Berlin offers a diverse range of experiences, there's an 'Other' unique charm to Waren on the Müritz lake.
