Dresden: New Developments in the City's History - Glue-related assault on Sixtina: suspects admit guilt in trial
A young female and her buddy face charges for harming property. They refused to pay the fine of 1500 euros and appealed against the penalty orders. In the indictment, it says that approximately 2300 euros worth of harm was done to the frame of the masterpiece by Rafael. Moreover, there's a civil lawsuit at the Dresden District Court regarding a claim for reimbursement by the Free State.
The defendants confessed in court that they each attached a hand to the frame of the renowned 16th-century altarpiece by Raphael using seconds glue. When the museum needed to be abandoned, a restorator took off the two hands from the frame, so the presentation stayed shut down for the whole day, which was affirmed by two restorators. It is said that it took nearly 15 work hours to remove the glue, leading to damages to the patina.
The trial will continue on the 19th of June.
