- Gladbach Test against Ipswich Town cancelled - win against U21
The friendly match scheduled for this afternoon (14:30) between Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach and English Premier League team Ipswich Town in Heimstetten, Munich has been cancelled at short notice. The English team's personnel situation was cited as the reason, according to a statement from Ipswich Town. Instead, Mönchengladbach's U21 team will now face the Foals.
Mönchengladbach had planned to conclude their training camp in Rottach-Egern with a high-level test match and expressed disappointment and anger at Ipswich Town's failure to honor their contractual obligations. "We are very disappointed and angry that Ipswich Town is not upholding their contractual commitments due to personnel issues," said Mönchengladbach's sporting director Roland Virkus on X (formerly Twitter). Virkus and his team were unable to arrange an alternative test opponent at short notice, leaving them no choice but to make the best of the situation. Ipswich Town had only contacted Mönchengladbach late on Thursday evening.
Mönchengladbach won the test match 3:1 (2:1). Goals for the Bundesliga side were scored by new signing Tim Kleindienst (18', 63') and Julian Weigl from the penalty spot in the 30th minute.
Despite the cancellation of the German Bundesliga match between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Ipswich Town, the Bundesliga side still managed to gain a victory in a different fixture. On the original schedule, Mönchengladbach was supposed to face Ipswich Town in the German Bundesliga, but their U21 team ended up playing against the Foals instead.
