Bundesliga - Gladbach and Schmadtke part ways
Nils Schmadtke is no longer Sport Director at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The successor of the 35-year-old is Swiss national David Zibung. The former goalkeeper is supposed to function as Sport Coordinator and take over a part of Schmadtke's tasks.
Gladbach's Sport Business Manager Roland Virkus stated in a statement regarding Schmadtke: "We met after the season and, after intense discussions, came to the conclusion to end the cooperation." However, we part ways "in good terms".
Schmadtke had taken over the Sport Director position only in the previous summer. Schmadtke's son, who is also a former Bundesliga goalkeeper and long-time manager Jörg Schmadtke, stated: "I have been at Borussia three times now and I don't want to miss any of these experiences. But under the surface, it didn't fit perfectly for both sides in this constellation. Therefore, a separation is the best decision for all."
The Gladbach team had a disappointing previous season. There were criticisms about the squad composition as well.
