Bundesliga - Gift for Bayern fans? Müller about to extend his contract

Thomas Müller 's expected contract extension at FC Bayern Munich is apparently imminent. According to "Bild", the 34-year-old has reached an agreement with the club management for a further year. The contract with the German soccer record champions, which expires at the end of the season, would therefore be extended until June 30, 2025.

"The deal is to be officially announced as early as this week," the report said. Müller himself was evasive in his response after the 3-0 win against VfB Stuttgart. Although he had spoken to CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, it was not about the contract, Müller said on Sunday evening. The veteran had previously confirmed that he definitely wanted to play another season. They were in good contact, said Müller.

Apart from seven years as a child at TSV Pähl, Müller only played for the German top flight. Most recently, however, the international, who joined Bayern in 2000, was often only a substitute under coach Thomas Tuchel. However, the prospect of the 2025 Champions League final in Munich is very tempting for Müller in any role.

Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich recently extended their contracts, which expire at the end of the season. Like Müller, the contracts of striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and defender Bouna Sarr also run until the end of this season. For both, the signs are pointing more towards a departure.

"There is no one who has internalized FC Bayern like him. We know what we have in him," Bayern's sporting director Christoph Freund recently said about Müller.

Club president Herbert Hainer recently said that Müller "won't be playing for another club from the summer, I'm convinced of that". Instead, the club's wish is to retain an icon like Müller in some capacity beyond his professional career.
