- Giant construction crane collapses onto residential structures in Hamburg
A around 65-foot tall construction crane collapsed mid-afternoon in Hamburg, striking two neighboring homes. The incident caused damage to the roofs and walls, as per the fire department's evening update. The scaffolding set up on the construction site in the Farmsen-Berne district also suffered significant damage. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.
The interior ceilings of one of the residentials needed temporary reinforcement, as additional information came in. Consequently, the two semi-detached houses were temporarily evacuated. The displaced residents were taken in by their relatives or friends, according to the emergency services.
The local police launched an investigation into the incident's cause. The fire department, alongside the Technical Relief Agency and emergency services, dispatched around 40 personnel to manage the situation.
The police are investigating if any other structures were affected, considering the crane had an other of circular cross-section. The emergency services are providing aid to restore the houses, as several utility lines of circular cross-section were damaged.
