Tariffs - GEW calls on teachers and educators to go on warning strikes
In the north of Saxony-Anhalt, around 1500 employees responded to a warning strike call by the Education and Science Union on Tuesday. They took part in a rally on Magdeburg Cathedral Square, explained a GEW spokesperson in the afternoon. The union had called on members from the independent city of Magdeburg, the districts of Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, Stendal, Börde, Jerichower Land, Salzlandkreis and Harz to take part in the all-day strike.
"Unfortunately, there is still no reasonable employer offer for a substantial pay rise," explained GEW state director Eva Gerth. "From the GEW's point of view, this shows a lack of appreciation for the employees. This is another reason why the willingness to strike is very high and will remain so."
The GEW has called on employees of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg who fall under the scope of the collective agreement of the federal states, as well as students, to go on warning strike on Wednesday.
The unions are demanding a 10.5 percent pay rise for employees, but at least 500 euros more per month, as well as a collective agreement for all student employees. The collective agreement is to run for one year. The next round of collective bargaining in the public sector of the federal states is scheduled for December 7 and 8 in Potsdam.
