Getting out of the far-right corner: Helpers qualified
13 more exit helpers have been trained in Lower Saxony this year to help people return from right-wing extremism to the democratic center of society. This was announced by the Ministry of Justice in Hanover on Wednesday. Since 2020, a qualification measure has been offered to help people leave the scene. The exit aid has been around for more than 20 years.
The qualification course involves more than 50 hours of relevant content from the fields of social work, education and psychology. The 13 new drop-out helpers include people who are already involved in drop-out help as well as police officers and students.
Justice Minister Kathrin Wahlmann (SPD) said in a statement: "At the moment, Islamist anti-Semitism is dominating the headlines. But that must not blind us to the danger from the right."
The training of these 13 new helpers is aimed at combating extremism, specifically right-wing extremism. Addressing the issue, Justice Minister Kathrin Wahlmann emphasized the importance of not overlooking the danger from the right, despite the current focus on Islamist anti-Semitism.
