Data Analysis - German tourism experiences a decline in overnight stays.
In the first few days of Easter this year, hotels and similar lodging accommodations faced weaker business. Preliminary results from the Federal Statistical Office show that the number of overnight stays by both domestic and international visitors dipped by 7.4% to reach 37.1 million. This contrast with the previous year's statistics.
One possible explanation for this drop is the altered timing of the Easter holidays. In April, hotels reported a decrease of 8.9% in stays by domestic tourists. However, the number of overnight stays by foreign guests actually increased by 0.4%. March, on the other hand, saw a record number of stays registered by accommodation providers. This upsurge made up for the deficit in April, resulting in a 1.2% overall increase in March and April compared to the previous year.
Between January and April, these establishments recorded 125.8 million overnight stays in total. This number reflects an increase of 3.1% compared to the same period last year. Domestic guests alone contributed 104.5 million overnight stays, showing a rise of 2.6%. Meanwhile, foreign travelers checked 21.3 million times into a hotel or similar accommodation during the same period - a 5.5% surge compared to the previous year. These statistics only consider establishments with ten or more sleeping spots or ten or more camping pitches.
