German show jumpers miss out on home victory

The German show jumpers missed out on a home victory at the German Master in Stuttgart. In the saddle on his horse Clemens de la Lande Nrw, Philipp Schulze Topphoff was the best local rider on Friday, finishing in fourth place with one knockdown in the jump-off. His time of 34.49 seconds would have been enough for victory. The victory went to Harry Charles from Great Britain and Aralyn Blue. The pair had already won the qualifying round. Steve Guerdat from Switzerland came second with Albfuehren's Iashin Sitte ahead of Penelope Leprevost from France on Texas.

The 100,000 euro international competition is the second most important jumping competition of the five-day event in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle after the World Cup jumping competition on Sunday.

Six duos competed in the jump-off late in the evening. However, Patrick Stühlmeyer, Hans-Dieter Dreher from the German A squad and Marco Kutscher did not. They finished in seventh to ninth place.

Despite the strong performance of Philipp Schulze Topphoff in the German Master, the German team missed out on winning the World Cup jumping event in their home turf. Harry Charles from Great Britain, along with his horse Aralyn Blue, clinched the World Cup title, having already won the qualifying round.
