The completion of the ICE line construction between Hannover and Würzburg is a done deal, costing 850 million euros. This project involved a total makeover of tracks, switches, bridges, and tunnels. The final construction section between Kassel and Fulda was concluded last Friday.
For 2 years, starting from 2019, 557 kilometers of tracks have undergone maintenance. This project also included repairs for 235 switches, 49 bridges, and 63 tunnels. The 327 kilometers long section is a crucial component in long-distance transport, connecting major cities like Hamburg and Munich. The process was dotted with alternate routes and canceled connections.
Philipp Nagl, a managing director of the infrastructure company DB InfraGO, is proud to announce that "Our construction teams have completely refurbished the entire line and parts of the Rauheberg tunnel from scratch." This crucial step occurred in the penultimate construction section in January. This renovation should enhance the overall reliability of the railway system.

The train journeys between Hanover and Würzburg are expected to be faster and smoother due to the completed railroad construction, which also passes through Kassel and Fulda. Unfortunately, a recent ICE train failure caused delays in long-distance transport, affecting travelers heading to Bavaria and Lower Saxony. To avoid traffic congestion, travelers might consider alternative routes, such as using local trains or buses. Despite the challenges, the improvements to the Hanover-Würzburg route demonstrate the commitment of German Railways to enhancing the country's railway infrastructure.
