The German soccer team is heading to their group stage matches at the home European Championship via team bus. The team will stay in Herzogenaurach, Franconia, and play three matches; the first against Scotland in Munich (200 km away), followed by Hungary in Stuttgart (200 km), and Switzerland in Frankfurt/Main (210 km). They arrived in Herzogenaurach by train, traveling from their training camp in Blankenhain.

Germany's authorities and the UEFA European Football Union have repeatedly emphasized the importance of sustainability for the tournament. They aim to reduce environmental impact by minimizing travel distances and even balancing out any negative effects.

To achieve this goal, the venues were divided into three clusters, meaning each nation plays at least twice in their assigned group. This shortened travel distances for fans as well.

The teams aren't required to live in the south (Frankfurt/Main, Munich, Stuttgart), west (Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Cologne), or north/east (Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig). Spain serves as an example with their base in Donaueschingen, located in the south, while their group stage matches are in Berlin (753 km away), Gelsenkirchen (555 km), and Düsseldorf (510 km).

The choice of transportation for national teams has been a topic of conversation, with last year's controversial short-haul flight from Stuttgart to Basel for a Nations League match. When corona restrictions ruled out rail travel, the DFB opted for the flight, despite potential health risks to the players.

To avoid such situations, the DFB has opted for trains in recent times, particularly for domestic trips. The DFB campus in Frankfurt/Main is near the main station.
