Beach volleyball - German duos with feasible groups at the Olympics
The three German Beach-Volleyball teams have received challenging tasks in the group draw for the Olympics in Paris. Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler from Hamburg have to face the Poles Michal Bryl/Bartosz Łosiak, Australians Thomas Hodges/Zachery Schubert, and Frenchmen Julien Lyneel/Rémi Bassereau, as the German Volleyball Association announced on Friday evening. The Polish duo is the biggest challenge for the German champions, as they were the WM-third place holders last year. They have not played against the other two pairs yet.
The team of Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann from Hamburg, who also train there, will face the American world champions Kelly Cheng/Sara Hughes in their group. The German champions were able to defeat the US duo this year. The tasks against the Frenchwomen Clémence Vieira/Aline Chamereau and the Czechs Barbora Hermannová/Marie-Sára Štochlova appear less challenging.
For Rio-Olympic champion Laura Ludwig from Hamburg and her partner Louisa Lippmann, there will be a confrontation with their EM rivals from the previous year. The German EM third place holders will play against the European champions Nina Brunner/Tanja Hüberli from Switzerland and the EM second place holders Daniela Alvarez/Tania Moreno from Spain. The less highly regarded Frenchwomen Alexia Richard/Lézana Placette complete the quartet.
A total of 24 pairs will compete for the Olympics among men and women from July 27 to August 10 under the Eiffel Tower for the Olympic title.
