Football - German DFB star Andrich confronted with tricky query over Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund.
Regarding the "comically challenging dilemma" of picking a favorite between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday in London, Bayer Leverkusen's star player Robert Andrich delivered a humorous response in the national team's training camp.
"Being part of a team with two players on each side makes it quite tricky to decide which team to root for. It's quite a dilemma, really," said the 29-year-old jokingly when referring to the BVB players, Niclas Füllkrug and Nico Schotterbeck, as well as the Real Madrid duo composed of Toni Kroos and Antonio Rüdiger. And then, he added a punchline with a smile, "Though, one could argue that as a German, you'd naturally support the German team. I believe it'll be a tightly contested match. And after careful consideration, I remain a Real Madrid fan."
On a more diplomatic note, his fellow Bayer Leverkusen teammate, Jonathan Tah, spoke at the DFB press conference in Blankenhain, "Both teams have managed to reach the final, and ultimately, I hope the better team comes out on top."
In preparation for the upcoming Euro 2024 at home, national coach Julian Nagelsmann has selected Andrich as a potential substitute for Real Madrid's Kroos in the midfield and Tah is slated to partner with Madrid's Rüdiger in central defense.
