Ballermann - German attacked on Mallorca: Bouncer arrested

Two doorkeepers of the local Bierkönig at Ballermann in Mallorca are alleged to have assaulted a German tourist and have been arrested. The victim from Cologne stated at the police station on Thursday that one of the doorkeepers grabbed his girlfriend by the leg in the night on Wednesday, according to the police. When the German confronted the doorkeeper, several of his colleagues surrounded him and attacked. The doorkeepers denied this account. The tourist, however, claimed that one of them had held him down while the other had beaten him up.

The tourist further stated at the police station that one of the security personnel had held him down, while the other had attacked him. When he had fallen to the ground, the employees of the party local had swarmed him. The man sustained a broken nose and a rib and was hospitalized.

Last year, there were reports of violence from doorkeepers against tourists. A headline-making incident was a video in which the doorkeepers of a discotheque chased a group of Germans through the so-called Schinkenstraße with batons.

Following last year's reports of tourist violence by doorkeepers, especially in Cologne, this incident at Ballermann in Majorca, Spain, adds to the concerns about tourism-related crime. The German tourist, who had previously enjoyed holidaying in Majorca with his girlfriend, now finds himself seeking justice in a Spanish police station. The alleged attack at the popular nightspot has put a negative spotlight on the region's tourism industry, potentially affecting Germany's travel advisories towards Spain.
