Gerhard Schneider elected President of the DRK in Thuringia
The current acting president of the German Red Cross (DRK) in Thuringia has now been officially elected to the office. Gerhard Schneider received the most votes at the DRK state assembly in Erfurt on Saturday, according to a spokesperson. He took over the honorary post in January from former Thuringian Transport Minister and President of the State Parliament Christian Carius, who had retired for personal reasons. Schneider was previously Vice President of the association.
The DRK has around 60,000 members in Thuringia. It is part of the civil protection service. In addition to rescue services, water and mountain rescue services, the association also runs social facilities such as kindergartens and care homes.
Gerhard Schneider's election as DRK president highlights the importance of having suitable individuals in charge during emergencies, as associations like DRK play a crucial role in providing necessary services during such situations. With his experience as Vice President, Schneider will undoubtedly lead the association effectively in addressing both emergencies and day-to-day needs of Thuringia's population.
