Local governments - Genthin's mayor has been removed from office.

The mayor of Genthin, Mr. Matthias Günther, has lost the faith of the locals by a massive margin. In a recall election, 83.4% of eligible voters supported his removal from office, according to the early findings. The voter turnout was at 60.4%. Less than two years ago, a prior attempt at a recall election didn't make it through. Politicians in the city council claim that Günther overburdens his role. Along with the European and municipal elections on Sunday, residents of Genthin were asked to weigh in on the future of Mayor Günther. In a public letter before his recall, he denounced consistent obstruction by certain city council members and party factions.
