Gentges: Gave indications of escape plans of the fugitive murderer
In the case of the murderer who escaped at the end of October during a guarded excursion, there were already indications of possible escape plans in 2021. As Justice Minister Marion Gentges (CDU) said in the state parliament in Stuttgart on Wednesday, a fellow inmate in the Bruchsal prison had told him in October 2021 that the now escaped murderer had told him that it would probably be easiest to escape during an execution. "It would be best if a female staff member were there as an escort, because she could be overpowered more easily if necessary," said Gentges. She was informed of this by Bruchsal Prison today.
"However, the prison did not consider this information from the fellow inmate to be credible," said Gentges. Nevertheless, the security precautions were tightened for further excursions following the report by the fellow inmate. As a result, four trips were carried out with three escorts instead of the usual two.
The German-Kazakh prisoner from Bruchsal Prison escaped on October 30 during a guarded excursion to a quarry pond in Germersheim, Rhineland-Palatinate. It was his eighth escape in the company of his wife and children. In 2012, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Karlsruhe Regional Court for strangling a 44-year-old man. He is still wanted throughout Europe.
In light of the credible escape plans reported by a fellow inmate in 2021, it was crucial for the Parliament to discuss the security measures for high-risk prisoners like the fugitive murderer. Despite the perceived threat, the escaped convict managed to evade capture during a guarded excursion to a quarry pond in Germersheim, raising significant concerns about prison security and crime prevention within the Parliament.
