Hertha BSC has extended the contract with central defender Linus Gechter early. As the Berlin second division football club announced, the 20-year-old signed a new contract until 2027. His work paper would have expired next summer, allowing Gechter to leave the club for free.

The junior national player stands for the Berlin way, with which Hertha wants to create more identification possibilities in the capital. The native Berliner joined Hertha in 2015 at the age of 11. Apart from a brief loan to Eintracht Braunschweig, he only played in the senior area for his youth club.

On Saturday, Gechter was in the starting lineup for the 1:2 season opener against SC Paderborn. The new coach Cristian Fiél preferred him over captain Toni Leistner on the right side in the central defense. "Hertha is my club, I grew up here and feel the trust of the responsible persons. Therefore, I am very happy that we can continue together," said Gechter.

Linus Gechter expressed his happiness about extending his contract with Hertha BSC, stating that he feels a sense of trust from the club's responsible figures and considers Hertha as his club due to growing up there. In the upcoming season opener against SC Paderborn, Gechter was selected as a starter by new coach Cristian Fiél, showcasing his importance to the team.
