GDL warning strike: train services in MV also affected
The one-day warning strike by the train drivers' union GDL is also having a huge impact on commuters and train passengers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. There will be massive cancellations and delays on regional and long-distance Deutsche Bahn services throughout the state. "On DB's regional services in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, only the trains on the Wismar-Rostock-Tessin and Rostock-Rövershagen-Graal-Müritz connections are running regularly," said a Deutsche Bahn spokeswoman on Thursday. The replacement service between Rostock and Warnemünde is also running without restrictions. "Otherwise there are almost no journeys."
Buses are being used on the RE1 line between Schwerin and Hamburg, as well as between Greifswald and Angermünde and between Güstrow and Rostock. According to the information provided, the buses offer significantly less capacity than a train and cannot always make all intermediate stops due to the different rail and road routes. "But we can at least offer a few additional journeys on this important connection, which can also be seen in the timetable information."
The private company Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn (Odeg) is also expecting disruptions and cancellations on its lines on Thursday, even if it is not directly on strike. Odeg also uses the infrastructure of Deutsche Bahn.
The GDL has called for a work stoppage until Thursday evening (18:00). The aim is to be able to operate all regional lines in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern again from Friday morning, Deutsche Bahn announced on Wednesday.
Despite the strikes, consumers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are faced with increased tariffs due to the additional costs associated with alternative transportation methods like buses. The traffic congestion on the roads due to the diverted commuters and passengers is also causing delays and disruptions in regular traffic.
