Trade union - GDL warning strike: Significant restrictions in rail traffic
The warning strike at Deutsche Bahn also led to severe restrictions on long-distance and regional services in Bavaria on Friday morning. Deutsche Bahn announced in the morning that there would be delays and train cancellations nationwide until the end of the day. Accordingly, only an emergency timetable with a greatly reduced number of journeys will be offered. In Bavaria in particular, where Deutsche Bahn is still dealing with the effects of the snow chaos, fewer trains are likely to be running.
According to Deutsche Bahn, the Munich S-Bahn only ran at hourly intervals on most lines on Friday morning due to the warning strike. The S2 was running every 40 minutes, the S8 to the airport every 20 minutes. On the other hand, most regional train services were canceled. Private rail companies such as Go-Ahead and Agilis had most of their trains running in the morning. There were only restrictions on those routes where the train dispatchers were also on strike.
The German Train Drivers' Union(GDL) had called on its members to take part in the warning strike from 10 p.m. on Thursday evening in passenger transport, while the strike in freight transport began at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The work stoppage is to end this Friday evening at 10.00 pm. The GDL last called a warning strike at Deutsche Bahn on November 15 and 16.
Deutsche Bahn advises passengers not to travel or to postpone their journeys. If this is not possible, it asked travelers to find out via the information media whether their connection is available before starting their journey.
With this action, the GDL wants to increase the pressure in the current collective bargaining round. Among other things, it wants to emphasize its demand for a reduction in working hours for shift workers.
