Rail traffic - GDL warning strike hits long-distance and S-Bahn trains in Hamburg hard
The warning strike announced by the train drivers' union GDL is expected to bring long-distance, regional and S-Bahn services in Hamburg to a virtual standstill. "There will be massive restrictions on S-Bahn services," writes S-Bahn Hamburg on its website, without giving any details. "As soon as we have more detailed information, we will publish it here."
The Hamburg Transport Association (HVV) is also expecting severe disruptions to regional services. The AKN will also be affected by the warning strike. "There will be no AKN trains during the strike period. No rail replacement services will be set up for the cancellations," says AKN. The HVV's recommendation: "Passengers are asked to use subway trains and buses if possible." Metronom and Erixx trains will continue to run, but restrictions must be expected.
Start Unterelbe is already stating that the emergency timetable of the railroad "only ensures a very limited train service on DB's long-distance, regional and S-Bahn services". The recommendation there, as with Deutsche Bahn, is: "Please postpone your journey."
The German Train Drivers' Union(GDL) called a 24-hour warning strike at Deutsche Bahn on Wednesday at short notice. The strike is to begin on Thursday evening at 22:00 and last until Friday evening at 22:00. Disruptions are expected even before the official start of the warning strike.
All employees in the long-distance and regional transport sectors, among others, have been called out on strike, as have employees on the suburban trains in Berlin and Hamburg. According to the announcement, the warning strike in freight transport will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening. Among other things, the union wants to emphasize its demand for a reduction in working hours for shift workers.
