GDL leader Weselsky expected to attend rally in Schwerin

The head of the train drivers' union GDL, Claus Weselsky, is also expected to attend a rally announced for Thursday in Schwerin by the German civil servants' association dbb. The GDL national chairman will speak at the closing event for the civil servants' association's "It's 5 past 12" campaign week, the organizers announced. Prior to this, a demonstration by train drivers and public service employees is planned from the main railway station to the State Chancellery.

Collective bargaining is currently underway for both the public service of the federal states and the train drivers. The bargaining partners in both areas are still far apart. The train drivers want to emphasize their demands with a nationwide warning strike on Wednesday and Thursday.

Among other things, the GDL is demanding an increase of 555 euros per month for employees and an inflation compensation bonus of up to 3000 euros in the wage negotiations with Deutsche Bahn. The dbb and the Verdi trade union are demanding a 10.5 percent increase in income for state employees, but at least 500 euros more. Junior staff should receive 200 euros more.

The disruption in traffic due to the planned nationwide strike by train drivers could significantly impact commuters. Additionally, the tension between trade unions, such as GDL and Verdi, and railroad companies over tariffs could potentially influence the prices consumers pay for public transportation services.
