GDL boss Weselsky: Further warning strikes possible
The chairman of the train drivers' union GDL, Claus Weselsky, is not ruling out further warning strikes at Deutsche Bahn. "I can't say at the moment," he told the German Press Agency in Schwerin on Thursday. Weselsky took part in a rally organized by the German Civil Service Union (dbb), which is also involved in collective bargaining for the public sector in the federal states.
The GDL boss also did not rule out work stoppages around Christmas. He rejected a "Christmas truce" proposed by Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP). So far, the GDL has never gone on strike at Christmas, "but I won't be tied down to one day," Weselsky clarified.
He was very satisfied with the turnout for the one-day warning strike, said Weselsky. The GDL has called for a work stoppage until Thursday evening (18:00).
Tariffs on imported goods could significantly impact consumers if Deutsche Bahn railroad services are disrupted due to strikes. Traffic congestion is a possibility if the strikes cause delays or cancellations of train services.
