- Gathering of the Extraordinary Session of Düsseldorf's Regional Legislature
After the tragic stabbing incident in Solingen, there's a planned joint meeting scheduled by the Interior and Integration Committee in the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament on Thursday. Individually, the SPD and FDP factions had submitted requests for separate meetings.
The SPD advocated for the Interior and Integration Committees to convene jointly. The FDP, however, requested a special meeting of the Interior Committee. Reports suggest that Angela Erwin (CDU), the chair of the lead Interior Committee, has arranged a joint meeting with the Integration Committee on Thursday, starting at 12:00 PM. The gathering is predicted to conclude within a maximum of three hours.
In its request, the SPD mentioned the aforementioned attack and the background of the alleged offender, who "resided in a refugee accommodation and was intended for deportation". The FDP's request highlighted the necessity for Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) to present "recent updates regarding the incident and the overarching response of the state government".
At the joint meeting organized by Angela Erwin from the CDU, both the Interior and Integration Committees will discuss the aftermath of the tragedy in Solingen. In their request, the FDP underlined the importance of Interior Minister Herbert Reul, also from the CDU, providing updates on the incident and the state government's response.
