Gas leaked from cars - major operation in Würzburg

Due to a gas smell late in the evening, the fire brigade is called out in the Wurzburg old town. Later, around 130 volunteer and professional emergency personnel are on duty. This is what is known so far.

Due to a gas leak from a car in an inner courtyard in Wurzburg, several residents have complained of respiratory irritation. At least 37 people were examined by emergency services, but no one was injured, police said.

Gas smell was reported late Wednesday evening. At that time, according to the fire department, many windows in the inner courtyard were open, causing several residents to experience respiratory irritation and burning in the eyes. All examined residents were later able to return to their apartments.

According to the fire department, around 50 firefighters and around 80 emergency service personnel were on site, along with a police patrol. The cause of the gas leak is still unknown.

The gas leak was identified as natural gas by the fire department. Despite the natural gas leak, no one required hospitalization.
