Commerce in retail goods or services - Galeria Kaufhof in Würzburg Rescued
The Galeria-Kaufhof store in Würzburg will not be shutting down as previously suggested by the insolvency administrator. The Bavarian Ministry of Economics confirmed this on Friday. "With the help of all involved parties, we managed to find a suitable solution and save 84 jobs in the region," stated Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters). Job offers which were supposed to be withdrawn have now been called off.
The only stores in Bavaria that are set to close are the ones in Regensburg and Augsburg. Aiwanger had previously expressed hopes for Augsburg as well, but this has been ruined. However, Aiwanger remains hopeful that with the current skills shortage, the employees affected will have excellent opportunities on the job market.
The insolvent German department store chain, Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof, intends to close a certain number of its 92 stores across the country by the 31st of August. At first, 16 stores were planned to be shut down. Nonetheless, there will be a name change associated with these closures; the company will now be rebranded as Galeria, and the large, traditional brands Karstadt and Kaufhof will be removed. These moves are part of a planned restructuring.
