Galatasaray fans set off pyrotechnics at Marienplatz
Before the Champions League group match between Bayern Munich and Galatasaray Istanbul, fans of the Turkish soccer club set off pyrotechnics on Munich's Marienplatz on Wednesday. Some supporters were temporarily arrested, said a police spokesman. There were initially no further riots and the fan gathering was largely calm.
The police spokesman did not confirm reports of alleged anti-Semitic incidents. Only one poster with the inscription "Free Palestine" had been unfurled. However, this did not constitute a criminal offense, he said.
Galatasaray Istanbul's fans were excited ahead of their Champions League group match against FC Bayern Munich. Despite the excitement, some fans were briefly detained after setting off pyrotechnics at Marienplatz before the match.
