- Futuristic AI, Energy, and Light: Forecasted Costs for Upcoming Initiatives
Smart Headlights, an Imaginative AI, and Energy-Efficient Chips are in the Run for the 2024 German Innovation Prize. Three teams showcased their market-prepared innovations, all vying for the award, at the German Museum in Munich. The teams originate from Bavaria, Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Saxony. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will bestow the €250,000 prize on November 27 in Berlin.
Lights Go Smarter
Regensburg's Osram International GmbH and Berlin's Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) have crafted "smart light" in the shape of programmable LED pixels that provide customizable illumination.
One application: A headlight that doesn't blind oncoming drivers through intelligent lighting distribution. Additionally, it imprints road symbols, for instance, a snowflake in inclement conditions. This lays the groundwork for ventures in Augmented Reality (AR).
AI Imagery for Everyman
Munich's Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität has conjured up "Secure Diffusion," an AI that converts commands into visuals. To promote technological equality, the software is open-source and unpatented.
For the Future Prize project, LMU professor Bjoern Ommer pairs up with Düsseldorf-based Nyris GmbH, which offers visual search capabilities. With Secure Diffusion, photorealistic images can be generated from construction data sets. This simplifies the identification of faulty components in technical installations.
Energy-Efficient Chip for Wind Turbines and Trains
Infineon Technologies AG, headquartered in Munich, in collaboration with Chemnitz's Technical University, has devised a power semiconductor module that seamlessly, rapidly, and optimally switches power in high voltage classes, guiding the energy transition. The energy-conserving silicon carbide chip with innovative copper contact tech can be utilized in places that require rapid power adjustments.
Recognition for Innovative Achievements
Osram International GmbH and Fraunhofer IZM's smart headlights could potentially win recognition in the category of ['Awards and honours'] for their significant contributions to road safety and the integration of AR technology.
Innovations in AI and Energy Efficiency
Infineon Technologies AG and Chemnitz's Technical University's collaboration on energy-efficient chips also presents a strong case for recognition in the ['Awards and honours'] category, showcasing their significant contributions to the renewable energy sector and high-voltage power related technologies.
