- Future Fridays activists plan to stage a protest outside the Chancellor's office.
Joining the Worldwide climate rally on September 20th, Fridays for Future will stage a protest in Berlin, directly in front of the Chancellery. With a federal election approaching in less than a year, the activists hope to prompt the government to honor its climate commitments, as per the movement's announcement.
As shared by Pit Terjung, the representative of Fridays for Future Berlin, the global temperature is currently breaking records, while regions like Bavaria and Saarland have been hit hard by extreme flooding, leaving numerous individuals displaced overnight. Regrettably, rather than focusing on climate policy, the traffic light coalition is mired in internal disagreements. Terjung voiced his concern, stating, "Chancellor Scholz is yet to demonstrate that 'Climate Chancellor' wasn't merely a catchy election slogan."
The current global temperature, as mentioned by Pit Terjung, is breaking records, highlighting the urgency of addressing the issue of climate change. The extreme flooding in regions like Bavaria and Saarland underlines the need for the German government, particularly the traffic light coalition, to prioritize their climate commitments, as the climate plays a significant role in such environmental phenomena.
